Why the Organizer Is Fuming Over Zodwa Wabantu

According to reports from the Daily Sun, Zodwa Wabantu was hired by Stenga Shabangu to perform at Stengas Place in Daveyton, Ekurhuleni, on Saturday, September 7, 2024. After receiving her R13,000 booking fee, Zodwa didn’t show up, leaving Shabangu feeling betrayed and angry. He took to the media to voice his frustration, highlighting how her absence disrupted the event and caused chaos among attendees.

Shabangu expressed deep disappointment, stating that what hurt the most wasn’t just the money lost but the lack of communication from Zodwa. He revealed that her absence caused such frustration that some guests turned violent, adding to the already tense atmosphere. “What really stings is that she didn’t even bother to let us know she wouldn’t be there,” Shabangu said in an interview.

  • “What hurts the most is that she did not communicate with us that she won’t be available,” the publication quoted Shabangu saying.

Shabangu emphasized that Zodwa was the main attraction of the night, and her absence meant losing a significant portion of the audience. He’s now demanding that she repay the money using funds from her other bookings, calling out her unprofessional behavior as unacceptable.

Why Zodwa Won’t Give the Money Back

In her defense, Zodwa Wabantu explained to the media that her ancestors don’t permit refunds. She argued that the money she receives is considered a blessing from them, and returning it would go against their spiritual practices. “I’m an ancestor’s child, and when money comes in, there’s no way I can give it back because I’ve asked for it from my ancestors,” she stated firmly.

While she refused to refund the organizer, Zodwa reportedly offered to perform on a different date, trying to make amends for the missed opportunity. When questioned about her decision to skip the event, she admitted that she prioritized a higher-paying gig, explaining that sometimes tough choices must be made in the business world.

Khaya Dladla Drama: A Different Story

Meanwhile, in a separate incident involving another South African celebrity, Khaya Dladla reportedly distanced himself from a Mandoza concert due to disagreements with the organizers. The media personality claimed he felt misled about the event’s details and decided to step away to protect his reputation. Despite this, the show went on, featuring Mandoza’s sons, who were celebrated by fans for carrying on their father’s legacy in music.

While both situations involve high-profile figures in South African entertainment, the reasons behind their actions differ greatly. Zodwa’s case centers around spiritual beliefs and financial priorities, while Khaya’s revolves around perceived misinformation and professional integrity. These incidents highlight the complexities of managing relationships in the entertainment industry, where expectations can often collide with personal values.
